Boxford’s Barrel Organ

For the musicians among you, the restored barrel organ built by an unknown builder circa 1810 – is  the only working one in Berkshire and is on display. Fund raising for the restoration work was completed be the indefatigable and sadly the late Andrew Lyle. There are five barrels – 4 of church music and 1 secular with ten tunes on each barrel. All tunes have now been recorded by the group who study and record all church barrel organs in England. Ours is apparently a fine example of its kind – now kept in the Heritage Centre to preserve it for future generations. To hear the recordings visit or visit the Heritage Centre on Sunday to get the live performance!
