Sadly the BHP events in the pipeline including the exhibition of the 2019 Mud Hole finds are deferred until further notice due to Covid-19. This also includes talks and visits requested by other historical societies about the 2019 Mud Hole excavations and the Boxford Mosaic.

Just in case you had not heard about the results of the Current Archaeology Award, we were pipped to the post by the Harlow Carr project – apparently they had 400 volunteers and the backing of York University so were able to galvanise more public votes – but according to Anthony Beeson we did have the best project! Grateful thanks to everyone who voted. Matt gave an excellent presentation about the project and the Boxford Mosaic book on sale at the event, sold out! So the work that everyone did in 2019 will be remembered long into the future.

The BHP like many other local historical societies has been approached by West Berkshire Council to assist in the appraisal of Conservation Areas locally. Boxford has two Conservation Areas and we are asked to consider whether these need updating and/or redefining. This is something we will be working on from home.

We are sorry we won’t be seeing you for some time. But please take care of yourselves and your nearest and dearest. Keep well!
